IWC Kujawy-Pomerania 26: This is what the championship medals look like
Less than two months to go until the Kujawsko-Pomorskie 26 Indoor World Championships, taking place March 20–22 at the Kujawsko-Pomorska Arena in Toruń.
During today’s (February 9) press conference, attended by Marshal Piotr Całbecki and Championship Director Krzysztof Wolsztyński, the medals that athletes from around the world will compete for were presented.
“I am glad we can show the world the full set of medals that will hang around the necks of the best athletes. Their design combines scattered points forming the well-known ‘constellations of good places’ in our region, along with graphic elements related to the championships. The star motif highlights both the level of competition and the uniqueness of the athletes’ achievements on the podium,” emphasized Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
The medal design was created in collaboration with the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Tourist Organization, with elements of the KPOT logo appearing on the obverse.
Orlen Joins as a Sponsor
Energy and fuel giant Orlen has joined the list of event sponsors. Sports sponsorship is a key part of the social campaigns run by the Płock-based company, covering both support for young talents and professional-level sports.
“Orlen’s commitment to sports development is long-term and multi-dimensional. The company has been supporting numerous sports initiatives across Poland for years—from programs aimed at children and youth to local events and cooperation with athletes and teams representing the country internationally. The goal of these activities is to popularize physical activity and build a strong foundation for future successes in Polish sport,” said Paweł Patkowski, Director of Orlen Sports Sponsorship.
Athletes Attend Medal Presentation
Polish representatives Marika Popowicz-Drapała and Maksymilian Szwed attended the medal unveiling.
“I really like that the medal is shaped like a star. Kujawsko-Pomorskie and Toruń are associated with astronomy, so it fits perfectly,” said Popowicz-Drapała, who has won numerous national and international medals but believes that the most important medal, earned on Polish soil, is still ahead of her.
Maksymilian Szwed, a member of the Orlen Team sports group, noted that the fight for the podium will be intense, as every athlete coming to Toruń will have one goal—to win a medal at the most important indoor event of the season.
Also present at the press conference was the Mayor of Włocławek, Krzysztof Kukucki.
Community Engagement Across the Region
The upcoming championships are already being felt by residents across the Kujawsko-Pomorskie region. Every day until the event, a series of 50 relays across the region is being held as part of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Relay program. Ten full sessions have already taken place, showing that the heart of Kujawsko-Pomorskie beats in rhythm with the approaching championships.
“The upcoming championships are a great opportunity to promote an active lifestyle,” said Marshal Piotr Całbecki during the January launch conference. “Every day in a different municipality, diverse sports and integration activities are held for everyone—children, youth, adults, and families. We also want the coming days to foster community spirit and joy in celebrating this sporting event together.”
Tickets and Event Schedule
Tickets for the March championships are still on sale, but only a limited number remain.
“Some sessions are already sold out, but you can still secure a chance to participate in this sports celebration,” added Krzysztof Wolsztyński. Tickets are available via eBilet.pl, with three pricing categories; the cheapest tickets cost 100 PLN.
The championships at Kujawsko-Pomorskie Arena in Toruń will begin on March 20. Morning sessions start at 10:05 AM each day, while afternoon sessions begin at 6:10 PM on Friday, 6:25 PM on Saturday, and 5:40 PM on Sunday. The first set of medals presented will be awarded during the opening session in the women’s high jump, with Polish athlete Maria Żodzik expected to compete.
