It was a record year on regional roads

On 26 May, one of this year’s most important sessions of the provincial assembly will take place, during which a vote of confidence and discharge for the regional government will be held. The basis for the debate will be two documents: a report on the state of the voivodeship and a report on the implementation of the budget for last year. We present materials summarising the activities of the regional government in 2024.

Last year was marked by many positive changes in public transport: new rail and bus connections, the purchase of rail vehicles and hybrid buses, the introduction of agglomeration tickets in the largest cities of the voivodeship and the opening of new destinations.

110 kilometres of upgraded roads were put into service in 2024. Among the largest completed investments are provincial road No. 254 linking Brzoza, near Bydgoszcz, with Łabiszyn and Barcin in the Żnin district, and the new Lubraniec bypass, together with the rebuilt provincial road No. 270 linking it with Brześć Kujawski in the Włocławek district. A number of tasks are in progress, while others – including the construction of further bypasses – are in preparation.

We are maintaining a very good pace in the modernisation of roads in our region,” stresses Marshal Piotr Całbecki. – The safety of all road users is a priority, which is why we are not only modernising roads and building cycle paths, but also implementing a programme to retrofit voivodeship roads with illuminated pedestrian crossings and bus stops. We are also continuing the programme of bypass construction – last year we completed the investment in Lubraniec and started the construction of the missing part of the bypass in Mogilno.

Completed modernisations and extensions:

  • Extension of provincial road No. 254 Brzoza-Łabiszyn-Barcin (Bydgoszcz and Żnin districts, length 22 km, total cost PLN 106 million, along with the road a cycle path between Brzoza and Nowy Smolno was commissioned, two junctions with circular traffic, and over 300 trees were planted along the route)
  • construction of a bypass around Lubraniec, including the reconstruction of a section of voivodeship road No. 270 Brześć Kujawski – Lubraniec (Włocławek poviat, total length 12 km, total cost PLN 95 million, two new roundabouts and a bridge over the Zgłowiączka river were commissioned along with the bypass)
  • reconstruction of provincial road 269 between Chodecz and Chocenie (Włocławek County, length 8 km, cost PLN 23 million, comprehensive modernisation of two sections).

We focus on safety

Last year also saw the launch of two major marshal programmes related to improving safety. We started the reconstruction of dangerous intersections. As a result, a roundabout was built in Sępolno Krajeńskie on the provincial road and a traffic light in Bysław on provincial road 240 (Tuchola district).

We also commissioned design and construction work for the illumination of 249 pedestrian crossings and 27 bus stops.

A new viaduct over the railway line intersecting with voivodeship road no. 240 (Tuchola-Świecie), built from scratch, was opened to traffic in Terespol Pomorski in spring.

Record expenditure on roads

The provincial road modernisation programme for the coming years will receive PLN 2 billion. Within the framework of the European Funds for Kuyavia and Pomerania 2021-2027 (FEdKP 2021-2027), our regional programme of the new perspective, we are allocating EUR 136 million for road investments, including our regional programme for the construction of bypasses. We will also use the central funding we have acquired for some of the tasks related to the expansion of road infrastructure (around PLN 170 million for bypasses and around PLN 450 million for the expansion of other roads).
