Investing in Safety
This year, volunteer fire department units in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region will be equipped with modern equipment worth 43 million PLN. The Volunteer Water Rescue Service (WOPR) will receive equipment worth 7 million PLN. The regional self-government consistently supports firefighters and WOPR rescuers by allocating funds each year to improve residents’ safety.
“The regional self-government systematically allocates funds for the purchase of modern equipment, fuel for patrol boats, and the training of firefighters and water rescuers. We are consistently strengthening the sense of security among the region’s residents,” emphasizes Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
Equipment for the Fire Department
As part of a project funded by European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021-2027, 107 OSP units will receive vehicles, boats, pumps, drones, and hydraulic tools, including:
- 29 rescue and firefighting vehicles,
- 3 operational vehicles,
- 11 special vehicles for transporting rescuers,
- 6 multi-purpose UTV vehicles,
- 10 rescue boats,
- 17 specialized trailers,
- 12 sets of hydraulic rescue tools,
- 23 sets of electric hydraulic rescue tools,
- 12 fire pumps,
- 6 operational drones.
The beneficiary of the “Safe Kujawy and Pomorze – purchase of equipment and vehicles for OSP units” project is the Regional Branch of the OSP RP Association of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region.
As part of our RDP 2014-2020 funds, firefighters from OSP units in the region received new trucks, pumps, drones, and hydraulic tools. Throughout the 2014-2020 EU perspective, 86 vehicles worth 80 million PLN were delivered to volunteer fire departments.
Support for Water Rescuers
In February 2024, Marshal Piotr Całbecki handed over another batch of equipment to Volunteer Water Rescue Service units to improve safety on the water. WOPR received jet skis, drones with thermal imaging cameras, sonars, rescue sleds, dry suits, medical backpacks, radios, boats, and defibrillators. The project was valued at 1.1 million PLN (with nearly 1 million PLN co-financed by our Regional Operational Program (ROP) 2014-2020). Under a training project funded by our ROP 2014-2020 (3.5 million PLN), nearly a thousand residents of our region obtained the necessary qualifications for water rescue work.
The regional self-government supported WOPR rescuers overseeing the safety of people spending summer by the water by allocating 120,000 PLN for the purchase of fuel for patrol boats.
By 2026, rescuers will receive equipment worth 7 million PLN. Funding of 6 million PLN comes from the regional program European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorskie 2021-2027. WOPR units in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region, including Regional WOPR in Toruń, Regional WOPR in Bydgoszcz, Włocławek WOPR, Nadgoplańskie WOPR in Kruszwica, Lipno WOPR, Pałuki WOPR in Żnin, Wdeckie WOPR, and WOPR in Chełmno, will receive cars, boats, ATVs, engines, kayaks, defibrillators, medical bags, radios, and personal rescue equipment.
Additionally, in the previous EU funding period, we purchased equipment for Kujawsko-Pomorskie WOPR units worth 1.1 million PLN.
