In Warsaw about our airport, cultural institutions and the financing of public education

Marshal Piotr Całbecki attended a meeting of the Joint Commission of Government and Local Self-Government in Warsaw yesterday (26 February) and held a number of fruitful meetings in ministries. The subject of discussions with Minister Hanna Wróblewska was the extension of the Pomeranian Philharmonic and Opera Nova in Bydgoszcz, as well as the issue of the further fate of the construction of the Camerimage European Film Centre in Toruń.

Today, KWRiST dealt, among other things, with the financing of local government educational tasks from the state budget. Since the new year, the way in which local authorities are funded has changed, which is also linked to the new way in which state education subsidies are determined. Doubts as to whether education funding in the form proposed by the government will meet needs have been raised by, among others, the Association of Polish Districts and the Association of Polish Cities.

The Pomeranian Philharmonic and Opera Nova are our flagship cultural institutions. As you know, the ongoing expansion of the opera complex is proceeding without problems. As for the extension of the Philharmonic, a tender to select a contractor should be announced soon. The latter is a very expensive investment, which is why we are constantly seeking external funding, including funds available from the Ministry of Culture. The ECFC, the venue for the annual Camerimage film festival, was a joint investment project of the Ministry of Culture, the local government of Toruń and the Tumult Foundation. Today’s meeting with Minister Hanna Wróblewska was another on this matter.

Today, Marshal Piotr Całbecki also held talks at the Ministry of National Defence (on the development of Bydgoszcz Airport – the airport site is adjacent to land belonging to the military), the Ministry of Digitalisation (on the development of information technology) and the Ministry of the Interior and Administration. At the Ministry of the Interior and Administration, the host of our voivodeship met with Deputy Minister Tomasz Szymański, with whom he discussed, among other things, the possibilities of cooperation related to activities within the framework of the European Committee of the Regions.
