In Brussels: Discussing the Future of Cohesion Policy, European Agriculture, and Disaster Resilience

Marshal Piotr Całbecki participated on Thursday (October 3) in a meeting of the NAT Commission of the European Committee of the Regions in Brussels. He was also a guest at the external session of the International Cooperation Commission of our regional parliament, held in the European complex in the Belgian capital.

The external session of the International Cooperation and Regional Promotion Commission took place at the Brussels headquarters of the Committee of the Regions. The session was attended by the chairman of the commission, Robert Malinowski, vice-chairman Marek Gralik, councilors Anna Niewiadomska and Jacek Gajewski, as well as the chairwoman and vice- chairman of the regional parliament, Elżbieta Piniewska and Przemysław Sznajdrowski. The commission members also participated in a conference dedicated to the EU regions’ initiative regarding the future of cohesion policy. This is the segment of EU policy through which regional programs and associated funds, such as those for our region, are managed. The event discussed an appeal directed to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen by 120 regions from fifteen member states, including Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden. The appeal calls for a meeting to discuss future guidelines for this policy. The document, also signed by the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship, warns against further centralization and declares the regions’ desire for greater involvement in the implementation of cohesion policy.

On Friday, meetings took place at the Polish Embassy in Brussels and the regional office of our voivodeship.

Thursday’s session of the Natural Resources Commission (NAT) focused on the future of European agriculture and the resilience of European regions to natural disasters, such as floods. The NAT Commission adopted opinions on fair trade and phytosanitary security in the trade of agricultural products, in the context of regional competitiveness of EU agriculture, as well as opinions on fair working conditions for farmers and agricultural workers.
