How can we stop Lake Gopło from drying up? – conference at the Nadgoplański Landscape Park
On 27 November 2025, a conference titled ‘Drying Gopło’ was held at the headquarters of the Nadgoplański Millennium Park in Kruszwica. The event, co-organised by the Marshal’s Office of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region, was attended by Dariusz Kurzawa, member of the regional board.
Lake Gopło is the largest natural body of water in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie region and the eleventh largest lake in Poland. It is one of the region’s most important water reservoirs and has for years been struggling with a progressive drying process. Climate change and human activity are causing a drastic drop in water levels, threatening the lake’s unique nature and cultural heritage. These challenges were the focus of the conference, where participants discussed the issue and searched for possible solutions.
The conference speakers were Dr. Bogumił Nowak from the Department of Hydrology at Kazimierz Wielki University and Agnieszka Siłacz, Director of the Regional Water Management Authority in Bydgoszcz of the State Water Management Company ‘Wody Polskie’.
