Holiday Trains Return to the Timetable
On the first day of the summer holidays, we are once again launching the regional seasonal trains that have proved highly popular with passengers, providing convenient access to popular holiday destinations on the Baltic coast and in the Tuchola Forest. On 27 June, the “Latarnik” (Lighthouse Keeper), “Borsuk” (Badger) and “Rybitwa” (Tern) trains will depart from Bydgoszcz and Toruń, taking residents to their summer getaways.
“Providing safe and comfortable transport during the holiday season has been one of our priorities for several years. This year’s timetable for the ‘Latarnik’ will allow passengers to spend up to nine hours on the Hel Peninsula. Equally attractive will be the services to the picturesque Tuchola Forest and to Kołobrzeg, a popular spa resort on Poland’s western coast. I am convinced that residents of our region will once again make good use of our seasonal rail connections,” says Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
“Latarnik”
On its route to Hel, the “Latarnik”, departing from Bydgoszcz Główna station, will stop in Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia, as well as in the popular resorts of the Hel Peninsula: Kuźnica, Chałupy, Jastarnia and Jurata. The service will be operated by Arriva RP.
The timetable has been designed to enable passengers travelling from Grudziądz to make a convenient connection at Laskowice Pomorskie.
From 27 June, the operator will also offer promotional fares and discounts on attractions available in Hel. Family tickets will be 20% cheaper, return tickets purchased at the same time will receive a 15% discount, and groups of 4–9 passengers will be entitled to a 10% discount on the standard fare.
“Borsuk”
Fans of kayaking, peaceful forest landscapes and relaxation by the water can travel to Tleń (Świecie County) on the seasonal “Borsuk” train. The service departs from Toruń, travels via Grudziądz and Tleń, and terminates in Czersk in the Pomorskie Voivodeship.
“Rybitwa”
From 27 June, the seasonal weekend direct train “Rybitwa” will also return to the timetable, connecting Toruń with Kołobrzeg.
For more than a year, the seasonal offer has been complemented by a direct weekday train (Monday to Friday) operating between Bydgoszcz and Kołobrzeg.
And that is not all. Passengers can also travel directly to Szczecin on the train known as “Barnim”, which is co-financed by the regional governments of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Wielkopolskie and Zachodniopomorskie voivodeships. The service departs daily from Bydgoszcz Główna station and provides a direct connection to the capital of Western Pomerania.
Passengers can already take advantage of regional train services to popular leisure destinations, including:
- Chmielniki (Bydgoszcz County)
- Kamionki (Toruń County)
- Iława (Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship)
Record Investment in Regional Rail Transport
In 2026, financial compensation provided by the Marshal’s Office to the operators selected through public tender procedures (Arriva and Polregio) will reach a record PLN 267 million. This amount includes infrastructure access charges and station fees, which total PLN 37 million.
The regional government currently owns a fleet of 33 trains, which continues to grow. In 2027, a further seven modern trainsets manufactured by Bydgoszcz-based Pesa will enter service. The contract is worth PLN 240 million and is financed through the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomorze 2021–2027 Regional Programme and the state budget.
There is more good news. The recently announced Integrated Railway Network includes new rail connections that will significantly improve public transport services for residents of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region.
