Historic Brine Pool in Ciechocinek: We’ve Got It!
The Regional Self-Government has officially taken over the historic brine pool in Ciechocinek, which has been abandoned for over two decades and deteriorating year by year. Located within the Tężniowy Park in Ciechocinek, near the famous graduation towers and the main promenade, the facility will now be restored and reopened to residents and spa-goers.
“Dreams do come true! We will return this gem of Kujawy and the region to its former glory, making it a source of pride. Not only are we saving a valuable monument from ruin, but we are also taking on the responsibility of revitalizing an exceptional recreational space at the heart of our most renowned spa town. Ciechocinek is a fantastic vacation destination, and reopening the pool will elevate its appeal even further,” emphasized Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
Currently, all that remains of the pool complex are remnants of the basin, small architectural features, and a fountain, barely visible behind overgrown brush. Over the past two decades, the state-owned property has changed hands among various perpetual users and owners of the structures on the site. The most recent was the limited liability company Termy Ciechocinek. The Regional Self-Government purchased the pool from this company for 15 million PLN, with the notarial deed signed in early December.
The next step involves careful restoration of the monument while preserving its historic architectural features. Further updates on the progress of this project will be provided soon.
A Jewel of the 1930s
The renowned thermal-brine pool in Ciechocinek was constructed in the early 1930s, designed by architect Romuald Gutt and sanitary engineering specialist Aleksander Szniolis. The facility was grand in scale and modernist in style. It was officially opened in 1932 in the presence of President Ignacy Mościcki. The pool was closed in 2002 due to poor technical condition.
