Marshal Piotr Całbecki and voivodship councillor Tadeusz Pogoda took part today (9 April) in a ceremony to lay the foundation stone for a biomass boiler at the municipal heating plant in Świecie. Renewable energy is an important element of the regional government’s environmental policy.

– In terms of moving away from fossil fuels and energy independence, we are at the beginning of the road. I am glad that another step in the right direction has been made in Świecie. There are many environmental challenges ahead of us. There are, as in other European countries, a whole host of them. We must approach their solution comprehensively, so I am glad that this project is an element of a broader vision,’ said Marshal Piotr Całbecki during today’s meeting in Świecie, attended by representatives of Veolia Północ, the owner of the Świecie district heating plant and network, and the city and poviat authorities.

Veolia is one of the first entities to benefit from the opportunities created by the launch of a support system for investments in green energy production under our regional programme, the European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie (EFKP). The value of the grant is PLN 9 million (85 per cent of the value of the project). The new boiler at the secular heating plant, with a capacity of 3 megawatts, which will replace the coal-based heat generation installation, will be fired by biomass in the form of waste woodchips. It will be complemented by a high-efficiency cogeneration system, a solution for the simultaneous production of heat and electricity. Previously, as part of an investment completed in 2023, some of the coal-fired units here were replaced by gas-based installations.

Veolia North is part of the international Veolia Group operating in the field of broadly defined municipal services. Veolia’s companies, among others, provide heat in 60 cities in Poland.
