Free vaccination against pneumococcus

Vaccination is underway as part of the Marshal’s pneumococcal infection prevention programme aimed at senior citizens. By the end of the year, selected healthcare providers will have vaccinated more than two thousand people over the age of 65 against these microorganisms.

“Prevention is still one of the weakest links in the public health care system. With our programmes in this area, we are responding to social expectations,” emphasises Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

The programme’s target audience is adults over 65 years of age who have not been vaccinated with the pneumococcal vaccine and live in the municipalities, cities and districts on the implementers’ list.

The programme is coordinated by the T. Browicz Regional Observational and Infectious Diseases Hospital in Bydgoszcz. The regional self-government’s funds planned for the programme amount to nearly PLN 400 000.

Among the Marshal’s health prevention programmes, which we are continuing to implement this year, are abdominal aortic aneurysm screening and falls prevention for seniors.
