Foster Family Care Gala

A gala dedicated to promoting foster family care was held in Toruń on Saturday (13 June), attended by Marshal Piotr Całbecki and Katarzyna Lubańska, Deputy Chair of the Regional Assembly. More than 2,000 foster families and 60 family-type children’s homes operate across the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region. Foster parents with the longest service were honoured with commemorative plaques.

The foster care system, especially family-based foster care, offers many children the opportunity to grow up in families that provide stability, security, proper conditions for development, as well as love and acceptance—values that are particularly important at this stage of life,” said Marshal Piotr Całbecki. “The Kujawsko-Pomorskie Foster Care Day celebrations are a gesture of appreciation and gratitude towards those who have undertaken the demanding mission of being foster parents. In this way, we would like to thank them for the dedication and care they provide to children every day.”

The event was organised by the Regional Social Policy Centre, which operates under the Marshal’s Office. The celebrations concluded with a family picnic and a performance of The Mischievous Flea (Pchła Szachrajka).

In the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region, there are currently 2,282 foster families, including:

  • 1,410 kinship foster families
  • 725 non-professional foster families
  • 147 professional foster families

In addition, there are 60 family-type children’s homes, providing care for 5,173 children.

As part of the family support and foster care system, the regional government also operates the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Adoption Centre in Toruń.
