Folk carol singing

We invite you to listen to recordings from the Christmas CD released by the Marshal’s Office. This year’s disc of greetings from Marshal Piotr Całbecki and the President of the regional parliament Elżbieta Piniewska features the most beautiful Polish carols and pastorals performed by the Svahy band, a folk trio from Kujawy and Pałuki, and the ethnic group Etnos Ensamble.

Singing and listening to Polish carols traditionally brings the atmosphere of Christmas into the home. I encourage everyone to maintain this beautiful tradition,” says Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

The album includes ten carols, both well-known ones, such as “Today in Bethlehem” and “Among the Night Silence,” and less popular but equally beautiful ones, such as “Pomaluśku, Józofie.” Svah singers (Patrycja Cywińska-Gacka, Ewa Pater and Malgorzata Zurańska-Wilkowska) and Etnos Ensamble (Bartosz Pacan, Konrad Merta, Piotr Gach, Dawid Lewandowski and Przemyslaw Pacan) created a warm Christmas mood, and the music played on ethnic instruments rarely used today – hurdy-gurdy, Bilgoraj suka (type of violin) and hoop drum – gave the recordings a unique, authentic character.

We invite you to listen to the songs:

The cover of the Christmas CD features an artwork by Monika Wawrzyniak-Fijałkowska, inspired by nativity scenes made by folk artists from Kujawsko-Pomorskie, which are held in the resources of the Maria Znamierowska-Prüffer Ethnographic Museum in Toruń. The Marshal’s Office has been publishing CDs of carols since 2009.
