Flowers and our good thoughts for Mrs. Irena Santor

Solec Kujawski is honoring a great star of the Polish stage, an honorary citizen of our region and cultural ambassador of Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Irena Santor, who is associated with the city. Organized by the local community on the occasion of the artist’s 90th birthday, the solemn meeting under the slogan “Flowers for Irena” takes place on December 6 at Primary School No. 1, which the dignified jubilarian attended as a child. The regional government is represented by Vice marshal Zbigniew Ostrowski.

– Her work (…) binds generations together by building a common world of values, goodness, love, truth and beauty. (…) It unleashes the layers of our often hidden sensitivity, opens up to the other person. (…) The title of honorary citizen of our province is an expression of our gratitude for (…) encouragement and support for Polish women in the fight against oncological diseases. For making Poland famous in the world and promoting Kuyavia and Pomerania. For preaching peace and supporting our European integration process. For all social and charitable works. For years of wonderful creativity resulting in hundreds of songs, music videos, thousands of concerts, dozens of albums, theater and television productions. For the emotions of several generations of Poles,” said Marshal Piotr Całbecki during the singer’s benefit last year.

Irena Santor was born in 1934 in Papowo Biskupie, and spent her childhood in Solec Kujawski. From 1951 to 1959 she performed with the Mazowsze Song and Dance Ensemble, then began a solo career, which she officially ended in 2021. In 2017, the Academy of Music in Lódź awarded her an honorary doctorate. She is an honorary citizen of Warsaw, Solec Kujawski and the municipality of Papowo Biskupie.
