Final of the Regional Self-Government Knowledge Contest

Julia Grabowska, a student at I High School in Szubin, won the final of the 21st edition of the Regional Knowledge Contest on Regional Self-Government for secondary school students. The participants were welcomed by Elżbieta Piniewska, President of the Regional Parliament and head of the Regional Organizing Committee.

 

From the submitted entries, the Regional Organizing Committee, appointed by President of the Regional Parliament, selected ten students for the final stage. In the final, participants presented their papers and answered questions posed by the Committee. The best works received monetary awards, and both students and their supervising teachers were recognized.

 

Award winners:

  • 2nd placeMaria Godkowska, IX High School in Toruń: “How does regional self-government support children in mental health crisis?”

  • 3rd placeJakub Matczak from the School of Commerce in Bydgoszcz: “The village head in modern Polish countryside – a remnant of tradition or a leader of the rural community?”
    Teacher: Agnieszka Wojciechowska

 

Honorable mentions were awarded to:

  • Natalia Sikorska – from the Salesian High School in Bydgoszcz: Regional self-governments facing the mental health crisis among children and youth”
    Teacher: Dr. Wojciech Jóźwiak
  • Alicja Kafka – from the Salesian High School in Bydgoszcz: “The village head in modern Polish countryside – a remnant of tradition or a leader of the rural community?”
    Teacher: Dr. Wojciech Jóźwiak
  • Nadia Szynal from IX High School in Toruń: “How does regional self-government support children in mental health crisis?”
    Teacher: Agnieszka Koepke

 

Additionally, among the submitted papers, a separate jury composed of members of the Youth Regional Parliament of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region awarded a prize for the paper that best reflected the perspective and understanding of reality characteristic of the young generation. The award went to Jakub Matczak from the School of Commerce in Bydgoszcz.

 

The finalists’ presentations were evaluated by the Regional Organizing Committee, consisting of: Dr. Monika Kamper-Kubańska, Professor at the State Academy of Applied Sciences in Włocławek, Dr. hab. Dorota Sylwestrzak, Professor at Nicolaus Copernicus University, Dr. hab. Piotr Rączka, Professor at Nicolaus Copernicus University and Andrzej Mazur from the Copernican Library in Toruń.

 

Participants, in consultation with their supervising teachers, prepared a written paper and a multimedia presentation on one of the following topics:

  • Feminatives in the nomenclature of regional self-government positions – language customs, current usage, practices, and observed trends.
  • How does regional self-government support children in mental health crisis?
  • The village head in modern Polish countryside – a remnant of tradition or a leader of the rural community?
