Expansion of Popieluszko Hospital: Budimex has 2 years to go
In the presence of Marshal Piotr Całbecki, the director of the Regional Specialist Hospital in Włocławek, Dariusz Szczepański, the president of the Marshal’s special purpose vehicle Kujawsko-Pomorskie Medical Investments, Jarosław Wierski, and director Mariusz Hurylski, representing Budimex, yesterday (12 March) signed an agreement to complete the extension of the hospital complex. The investment will start without undue delay.
This involves the construction of a five-storey new main building at the Włocławek medical centre, which will house the admissions room and hospital emergency ward, the main operating theatre, the delivery theatre, the intensive care unit, the bed wards and endoscopy laboratory, as well as the hospital pharmacy and sterilisation room. A helipad platform for air ambulance helicopters will be installed on the roof. The facility is currently in a shell-closed state following the completion of the first phase of the project.
The cost of completing the building is PLN 234 million. This is the amount of Budimex’s contract, which has 24 months to carry out the works. The financial assembly consists of a loan from the European Investment Bank, funds from our regional programme European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie 2021-2027 and the clinic’s own contribution.
– I hope that now everything will go as smoothly as possible. However, you have to remember that we are building the heart of the hospital, with an operating theatre and a hospital emergency ward, so it is not easy. This will be a 21st century hospital. We are already preparing for the purchase of modern equipment and the construction of a multi-storey car park, which we will start next year,’ said Marshal Piotr Całbecki during the ceremony. He added that a package of projects related to the modernisation and extension of the hospital will be completed in the next four years with the construction of pavilions for the care and treatment facility (the investment has already started, at a cost of PLN 70 million) and a psychiatric block and multi-specialist outpatient clinics (investments in progress).
Today’s ceremony in Włocławek was also attended by MP Krystian Łuczak, the Mayor of Włocławek, Krzysztof Kukucki, a member of the regional government, Marek Wojtkowski, regional councillor Sławomir Kopyść and the chairwoman of the hospital’s social council Domicela Kopaczewska.
It is already known that the Włocławek hospital has also received a grant from the National Reconstruction Plan (KPO) for the creation of modern facilities for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The value of the support is PLN 48 million. In congratulating the facility’s management, the voivodship’s host emphasised that oncology is another very important element in the hospital’s development, and the additional money is an effective developmental stimulus.
