European Regions and Cities Showcase in Brussels

With the participation of local government representatives from across Europe, numerous experts, and representatives of civil society institutions, the European Week of Regions and Cities (October 7-10) is taking place in Brussels. This annual event focuses on the regional and urban policies of the European Union. It is organized by the European Committee of the Regions and the Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy of the European Commission. Marshal Piotr Całbecki attended yesterday’s (October 7) plenary opening session.

Over four days, high-level political debates, workshops, and exhibitions will be held in the European complex in the Belgian capital, primarily focusing on the future of EU regional and local policies. During the event, regional and city delegations will showcase their achievements in fostering growth and implementing cohesion policies, while discussing how to improve EU instruments. Organizers estimate that several thousand participants from across the continent will attend the various meetings.

We are presenting, among other things, our achievements in senior policy, especially the highly successful home telecare project that has been running for several years.

On Wednesday and Thursday, Marshal Piotr Całbecki will participate in three discussion sessions: on the role of regions in strengthening EU democracy, on regional food systems, and on digitalization as a crucial driver of development. The first session, a high-level debate on Thursday, October 10, is particularly important, featuring speakers such as the host of our region and European Commission Vice President Věra Jourová.
