Dragon boats from Chełmno at the World Championships

Marshal Piotr Całbecki today hosted athletes from the Dragon Chełmno Water Sports Association, who expressed their gratitude for the support they received in preparing for the Dragon Boat World Championships – Brandenburg 2025. The Dragon Chełmno athletes were members of the Polish National Team competing in this prestigious sporting event.

Originating from canoeing, dragon boat racing requires not only strength and endurance but, above all, team rhythm and coordination. A crew consists of 10 or 20 paddlers. Dragon Chełmno is one of Poland’s leading clubs in this discipline. Its athletes have already won more than 30 medals at the Polish Championships, competing against teams from Warsaw, Gdańsk, Szczecin, and Poznań. In July 2025, as many as 11 club members represented Poland at the World Championships in Brandenburg, earning three medals – one silver and two bronze.

Thanks to the dedication and achievements of the Chełmno athletes, dragon boat racing is gaining increasing popularity, and the Kujawsko-Pomorskie region is becoming an important center for this rapidly developing sport.

We’re not resting on our laurels. We continue to develop the club and prepare for new challenges. Next year, our athletes will compete for spots on the national team for the European Championships in Munich,” said Wojciech Dajewski, club president and dragon boat enthusiast.
