Camerimage Festival Underway

The International Festival of the Art of Cinematography has begun in Toruń (15–22 November). The opening film was Anemone starring Daniel Day-Lewis. The main competition also includes, among others, Poland’s Oscar candidate Franz Kafka by Agnieszka Holland, Nuremberg with Russell Crowe, and the domestic blockbuster Chopin, Chopin!. In the special screenings section, audiences can see, among others, Jim Jarmusch’s latest film Father Mother Sister Brother, awarded in Venice.

As always, the main partner and co-host of the event is the Kujawsko-Pomorskie regional government. During the festival gala, the Marshal’s Film Award was presented to one of the greatest stars of contemporary Polish cinema, Grażyna Szapołowska.

Camerimage, the event that revolutionized film festivals worldwide dedicated to masters of cinematography and creators of the tenth art, is also an important event for Toruń and the region. Let us give the Tumul Foundation the chance to continue developing it. The region, Toruń, and the audience deserve it. I wish everyone a fantastic festival!” said Marshal Piotr Całbecki at the opening gala.

An important part of this year’s Camerimage is the ‘Film Kujawy and Pomerania’ section, which connects to the ongoing Year of Science Figures from Kujawy and Pomerania. Highlights include screenings of documentaries: Jan Czochralski. The Forefather of Electronics, Return of the Chemist, The Gardens of Tadeusz Reichstein, and Secrets of Enigma.

This section also features feature films produced with the support of the Kujawy-Pomerania Film Fund:

  • Intersection by Dominika Montean-Pańków, featuring a remarkable performance by Jan Englert
  • Seasons, filmed in Toruń and directed by Michał Grzybowski, starring Agnieszka Dulęba-Kasza
  • (premiere) romantic comedy Gingerbread Heart by Piotr Wereśniak, set in the festive scenery of Toruń’s Old Town

Accompanying the 2025 Camerimage Festival is the exhibition “Visions of Time” by Bill Viola, a pioneer of video art and one of the most important creators of the 20th century.
