Build expansion of Popiełuszko Hospital – agreement with contractor imminent

The completion of the expansion of the Voivodship Specialist Hospital in Włocławek is among the projects covered by EU funding under our regional programme European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie 2021-2027. The relevant agreement was handed over to the hospital management last Wednesday (29 January). The investment is expected to start as early as February.

This involves the construction of a five-storey main building at the Wloclawek medical centre, which will house the admissions room and hospital emergency ward, the main operating theatre, the delivery theatre, the intensive care unit, the bed wards and endoscopy laboratory, as well as the hospital pharmacy and sterilisation room. A helipad platform for air ambulance helicopters will be installed on the roof. Currently, the building is in a closed shell state after the first phase of the project has been completed.

The company that is to complete the task – Warsaw-based Budimex – was selected as recently as last year. However, the signing of the contract was postponed due to the ongoing finalisation of the financial assembly and the so-called prior control of the Public Procurement Office (a routine, obligatory procedure in the case of large projects co-financed with EU funds). The management of the marshal’s special purpose vehicle Kujawsko-Pomorskie Inwestycje Medyczne (KPIM – Kujawsko-Pomorskie Medical Investments), which is managing the investment, estimates that the Public Procurement Office’s inspection should end soon and that the contract with Budimex could be signed as early as in February. At that time, KPIM will also immediately hand over the construction site to the contractor and the company will have 24 months to complete the works.

The cost of completing the construction is PLN 290 million, the grant from FEdKP is 52 million. The assumed financing from the provincial budget is PLN 205 million. We are also seeking external funding.
