Brodnicki Landscape Park – A Paradise for Active Nature Lovers

Lovers of active leisure and hiking, kayaking, or cycling can enjoy the natural beauty of Brodnicki Landscape Park. The park’s rich biodiversity draws thousands of tourists every year. Covering an area with over 40 lakes and 8 nature reserves, it is home to many rare species of plants and animals.

Brodnicki Landscape Park was established in 1985 and celebrated its 40th anniversary this year. A jubilee conference was held in June, attended by, among others, Vice-Marshal Aneta Jędrzejewska. The park spans 17,000 hectares, lying within two regions: Kujawsko-Pomorskie (12,349 ha) and Warmińsko-Mazurskie (4,336 ha), and across six municipalities: Zbiczno, Jabłonowo Pomorskie, Brodnica, Brzozie, Biskupiec Pomorski, and Kurzętnik. It encompasses the central, most ecologically and culturally valuable part of the Brodnica Lake District. The entire park is part of the “Green Lungs of Poland” ecological region.

The park’s headquarters is located in Grzmięca (Brodnica County) by Lake Strażym. Nearby are an educational garden and a meteorological station. A dedicated educational facility, added to the headquarters (investment cost: PLN 402,000, over PLN 270,000 of which came from the Regional Operational Programme 2007–2013), provides the base for the park’s educational activities. Each year, nearly 4,000 visitors — mainly school and kindergarten students — participate in educational sessions and “green schools.” Environmental education is also conducted at the “Miętowy Gaj” Ecological Education Center in Gaj (Brodnica County), which includes a biodiversity garden, a multipurpose grassy field, and a campfire site.

Park staff actively organize events promoting local nature, including outdoor games, day camps for organized groups, and multi-day themed activities focused on the flora and fauna of the park. Children and youth can also learn about beekeeping during nature workshops held at the educational apiary near the park headquarters. Current events are announced and covered on the park’s Facebook page.

The natural wonders of Brodnicki Landscape Park are best discovered along its educational and ecological trails, which can be explored on foot, by bike, or by kayak. The routes are tailored to different age groups:
