
Bishop Arkadiusz Okroj’s Ingress
Today (June 6), the new ordinary of the Diocese of Toruń, Bishop Arkadiusz Okroj, will officially enter the cathedral (ingress). Marshal Piotr Całbecki will attend the ceremony.
“At the beginning of your pastoral mission, I offer my heartfelt congratulations and wish you abundant divine grace, health, and the strength needed to fulfill this honorable office. May your ministry bring many blessings to the Church in Toruń,” said Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
By signing the documents confirming the canonical assumption of the Diocese of Toruń, Bishop Arkadiusz Okroj formally became its shepherd on Wednesday (June 4). During today’s (June 6) ingress at the cathedral, he will be presented with the pastoral staff, symbolizing his official taking over of the diocese.
Pope Francis appointed Bishop Arkadiusz Okroj, formerly auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Pelplin, as the ordinary of the Diocese of Toruń on April 5. The new Bishop of Toruń was born in Kartuzy on May 27, 1967. He was ordained a priest on June 6, 1992, and began his ministry in parishes in Drzycim (Świecie County) and Wygoda Łączyńska (Kartuzy County). He pursued theological studies in spirituality at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, earning a doctorate in 2002. For ten years (2000–2010), he served as spiritual director at the seminary in Pelplin while also teaching the theology of spiritual life. For the next nine years (2010–2019), he was the parish priest of St. Michael the Archangel in Kiełpino. He became auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Pelplin in 2019.
Within the Polish Bishops’ Conference (KEP), he is a member of the Commission for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life and belongs to the Council for Tourism and Pilgrimages.
