Awards Announced at the Karol Lipiński Violin Competition

The outstanding Korean violinist Sunjae Ok has been named the winner of the 6th International Karol Lipiński Violin Competition. The event, which was combined with a violin festival and captivated music lovers in Toruń and region for two weeks, was financially supported by the regional government. Marshal Piotr Całbecki attended the winners’ concert on Sunday (October 6).

The second prize was awarded to the brilliantly performing young Swedish virtuoso Lorenz Karls, while the third prize went to Wonbeen Chung, also from South Korea. The competition’s level was exceptionally high, with the violinists presenting some of the most beautiful pieces from the global violin repertoire. The soloists were accompanied by the Toruń Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Dainius Pavilionis. The jury was chaired by Daniel Stabrawa, a distinguished musician who was associated with the Berliner Philharmoniker for over two decades, serving as its long-time first concertmaster and soloist. The concerts were held at the Jordanki Cultural and Congress Center in Toruń.

During yesterday’s winners’ concert, Sibelius’s Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 47 and Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61 were performed.
