Social care homes, pocket parks, healthcare, and heritage renovations are the topics most often taken up by journalists, with European funds as the main protagonists – funds that are changing the everyday lives of residents of our region. On Monday (15 December), Marshal Piotr Całbecki presented awards to the authors of the best press materials in the journalism competition “European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie”, organised by the Marshal’s Office.

“The topics addressed by journalists are proof that European funds are not some distant Brussels concept. They are resources that we, as a regional self-government, manage wisely and in line with residents’ expectations. Thanks to the reliable and objective work of journalists, we know how these funds are used and how they change our reality for the better,” emphasised Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

Before announcing the results of this year’s edition of the competition, the host of the region thanked two journalists who, throughout their many years of reporting, have addressed issues important to the region’s residents and remained close to key regional events: Marek Weckwerth, long associated with Gazeta Pomorska, and Tytus Żmijewski, a photojournalist with the Polish Press Agency and a recipient of the Marshal’s Award.

In the eighth edition of the competition, awards were presented in three categories.

Press category

• 1st place – Małgorzata Oberlan-Sędzikowska (Nowości) for the article “Pocket parks. Applause nationwide, discord in Toruń”
• 2nd place – Agnieszka Domka-Rybka (Gazeta Pomorska) for the article “From railway nightmare to comfort. A regional train 30 years ago and today”
• 3rd place – Agnieszka Waszkiewicz (www.czaschelmna.pl) for the article “This place is our whole world. Seniors from Świecie have fallen in love with the Generations Centre”

Honourable mentions:

• Bartosz Fryckowski (www.ototorun.pl) for “Renovation of a historic palace near Toruń begins. It had been falling into ruin for years”
• Iwona Góralczyk (Gazeta Pomorska) for “‘Wicek’ from Kujawsko-Pomorskie conquers Japan. A Bydgoszcz native reports on what EXPO 2025 in Osaka looks like”
• Anna Grochowina (www.pomorska.pl, www.inowroclawnaszemiasto.pl) for “‘Sanatorium by the graduation towers’. A town for spa patients in Inowrocław. Here, time comes to rest”
• Paweł Lachowicz (Tygodnik Lokalny Pałuki i Ziemia Mogileńska) for “Conservation work on the Black Altar of the Holy Cross”
• Marika Lewandowska (Dzień Dobry Włocławek) for “Nearly PLN 9 million in funding for Włocławek. How the city centre will be transformed”
• Weronika Polichnowska (Dzień Dobry Toruń) for “A mountain of waste under control – MPO prepares changes worth millions. Thanks to EU support”
• Grażyna Sobczak (Dzień Dobry Włocławek) for “A new era of diagnostics in Włocławek. PLN 6 million allocated to the county”
• Dawid Tłuchowski (Dzień Dobry Włocławek) for “Bus stops in Włocławek to undergo a transformation. A complete revolution at the terminal”

Radio category

• 1st place – Gustaw Nowak (Meloradio) for the programme “EU funds are changing Toruń”
• 2nd place – Monika Siwak (Radio PiK) for the programme “On artificial intelligence in social assistance”
• 3rd place – Rafał Wiliński (Radio Hit Włocławek) for the programme “A European prescription for health”

Honourable mentions:

• Maria Nowak (Radio Eska) for “A view of Barbarka, or environmental education with the youngest”
• Adriana Andrzejewska-Kuras (Radio PiK) for “Regaining the joy of life”

Television category

• 1st place – Sławek Lewandowski (TVK Toruń) for the programme “Europe in pocket parks”
• 2nd place – Wiesław Jankowski (TVP 3 Bydgoszcz) for the programme “In the garden and the grotto”
• 3rd place – Mariusz Orłowski (TVK Toruń) for the programme “Funds for left-bank Toruń”

Honourable mentions:

• Aleksandra Ciekot (TVP 3 Bydgoszcz) for “Kujawsko-Pomorskie closer to the stars”
• Jakub Fiderewicz (TVK Toruń) for “25 years of the Rev. Jerzy Popiełuszko Nursing and Care Facility in Toruń”
• Błażej Karczmarczyk (TVP 3 Bydgoszcz) for “Record support for the hospital’s 170th anniversary”
• Marta Nowicka-Bujak (TVK Toruń) for “The educational triangle in Bierzgłowo”

In the “European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie” competition, we recognised the authors of articles, radio broadcasts and television programmes that demonstrated how European funds – from the Regional Operational Programme of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region for 2007-2013, the Regional Operational Programme for 2014-2020, and the European Funds for Kujawy and Pomerania programme for 2021-2027 – contribute to the development of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region.

The meeting took place at the “Stodoła” restaurant in Przysiek.
