Astrobaza Włocławek Science Picnic
Observations of the Sun through telescopes, shows in a mobile planetarium, spectacular experiments, rocket workshops, and even a cosmic basketball game with Anwil players – these are just some of the attractions awaiting participants of the Astrobaza Włocławek astronomy picnic. The event will take place on September 18 on the boulevards and on the premises of the Marshal’s Office branch on Bechiego Street in Włocławek. Registration for participation opens on Monday (September 8).
– For years we have been combining modern forms of science popularization with the rich astronomical traditions of our region, and events like this picnic are an excellent example of that. I wish all participants a wonderful time! – emphasizes Piotr Całbecki, Marshal of the Region.
A starry program of attractions
The picnic program will include, among others:
- shows in the Syriusz mobile planetarium,

- a cosmic basketball game with Anwil Włocławek players,

- outdoor games and activities for children.
There will also be a cosmic snack for all participants.
School recruitment
Primary schools from Włocławek and the surrounding area are invited to take part. The picnic will gather over six hundred pupils from 20 schools. Each institution may register up to 30 pupils from grades 1 to 6.
The registration form and detailed information are available on the KPCEI website. Applications are open until September 12.
A tribute to an outstanding scholar
The picnic will also be an opportunity to honor the memory of Professor Wilhelmina Iwanowska – co-founder of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Vice-President of the International Astronomical Union, and longtime director of the Astronomical Center in Piwnice. The year 2025 marks the 120th anniversary of her birth, and the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Centre for Education and Innovation is a co-organizer of the jubilee celebrations.
Astronomy within reach
The astronomy picnic format has already proven successful in Toruń, where it accompanied this year’s Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region Festival. This time the project comes to Włocławek to showcase the activities of the Astrobaz Kopernik network to students and inspire young people to discover the mysteries of the cosmos. The event will also be held in Bydgoszcz.
