A Village with a Medal – submit your initiative to the competition
The Board of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region has announced a call for entries for the regional stage of the competition “Village Fund – the Best Initiative”, addressed to village administrative units (sołectwa) from our region. It is an excellent opportunity to present interesting projects implemented thanks to the village fund and to win financial prizes as well as promote the local community.
“The village fund is not only a financial tool. Above all, it is an expression of trust in rural residents and their leaders. Village Leaders know the needs of their small homelands best – they know whether renovating a community centre, upgrading a playground, improving road safety or supporting local initiatives that integrate residents is more urgent in a given village. The projects submitted to this competition represent good practices and initiatives that set the direction for rural development, which is why we encourage all villages to participate,” emphasises Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
All village administrative units from the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region that implemented projects financed by the village fund between 2011 and 2025, or used the fund as their own contribution, are eligible to take part in the competition. The initiative promotes the activation of rural residents, highlights the achievements of local communities and encourages the exchange of experiences between villages.
Applications may be submitted by:
- the village head (sołtys),
- a member of the village council, or
- the mayor or commune head of the municipality where the village is located.
Participation in the competition is above all a great opportunity to promote the activities of a village, showcase local successes and inspire other rural communities. It is also a chance to win financial awards. The total prize pool amounts to 16,000 PLN. In addition, winners of the regional stage will represent the region in the national final organised by the National Association of Village Leaders.

In our region, the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Council of Village Leaders was established in 2024. It is an important partner for the regional government in discussions about the future of rural areas in the region. The council represents all village administrative units in the Region, allowing local needs to be heard more effectively and translated into concrete actions.
