A Temporary Parent, a Lifetime of Love
Under the honorary patronage of Marshal Piotr Całbecki and President of the Regional Parliament Elżbieta Piniewska, a conference dedicated to issues related to foster care is being held today (June 18) in Toruń. In the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region, there are over 2,000 foster families and 56 family children’s homes. Foster parents with the longest service will be honored with commemorative plaques.
“The institution of foster care, especially family-based foster care, offers many children the chance to live in families that provide them with stability, security, and conditions for proper development, as well as love and acceptance, which are particularly important at this stage of life. The conference slogan – ‘A Temporary Parent, a Lifetime of Love’ – perfectly reflects what foster families and family children’s homes mean to the children entrusted to their care,” said Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
The conference, organized by the Regional Social Policy Centre operating under the authority of the Marshal’s Office, brings together representatives of the foster care community and specialists from family support institutions.
In our region, there are 2,172 foster families and 56 family children’s homes caring for over 3,500 children. The reasons children are placed in foster care most often include parental addictions, domestic violence, neglect, and a lack of parenting skills disrupting the proper functioning of their biological families.
As part of the family support and foster care system, the regional self-government runs the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Adoption Centre in Toruń.
