A safe route from Bydgoszcz to Wąbrzeźno

In the presence of Marshal Piotr Całbecki and Member of the Regional Board Marek Wojtkowski, a contract was signed today (September 2) for the comprehensive modernization of regional road No. 551 between Strzyżawa and Nowy Dwór in Bydgoszcz County. On this important route connecting Bydgoszcz with Wąbrzeźno, pedestrian crossings will also be equipped with additional lighting. For investments launched this year in Bydgoszcz County, we are allocating PLN 50 million.

This project [covered by today’s signed contract] involves the modernization of a short but very important section of the road. Traffic volume here is high, so it is necessary to ensure the safety of everyone using this route,” Marshal Piotr Całbecki said in a conversation with journalists. “We are maintaining a very good pace of work. This year, we plan to open another 130 kilometers of modernized roads.”

The expansion of regional road No. 551 in Bydgoszcz County includes two sections: from Strzyżawa to Ostromecko and from Ostromecko to Nowy Dwór. The section passing through Ostromecko was thoroughly modernized in previous years. The scope of work includes:

  • Reinforcement of the road structure,
  • Laying new pavement layers,
  • Reconstruction of two culverts,
  • Construction of new shoulders and driveways.

Work will also be carried out on power and telecommunications networks, as well as the construction of stormwater drainage and sidewalks in Strzyżawa.

The project will be carried out by Colas, with whom we signed a contract worth PLN 21.8 million. The investment will be financed from the regional budget, with planned use of European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie for 2021–27. All works are expected to be completed by next autumn. After acceptance, the road will have a 7-year warranty.

The contract was signed by the Director of the Regional Roads Authority, Przemysław Dąbrowski, and Colas Board Representative Maciej Hewusz. Also present at the meeting were Bydgoszcz County Starosta Zbigniew Łuczak and Deputy Mayor of Dąbrowa Chełmińska Municipality Mariusz Buliński.

Previously, we modernized sections of this road in Ostromecko and Dąbrowa Chełmińska. Thanks to cooperation with local governments, a safe pedestrian and bicycle path was created from the Fordon Bridge to Unisław.

Later this year, work is planned to add lighting to pedestrian crossings along the entire regional road No. 551. New lighting fixtures will be installed at crossings in Nowy Dwór, Dąbrowa Chełmińska, Otowice, Unisław, Chełmża, and Wąbrzeźno. In total, 45 crossings and 10 bus stops will be illuminated. Sections in Gzin (1 km, Bydgoszcz County) and Orzechowo-Ryńsk (3 km, Wąbrzeźno County) are also being modernized. In the coming years, the reconstruction of all sections of this road will be completed.

Other investments around Bydgoszcz

This year, several other projects are planned in Bydgoszcz County:

  • Reconstruction of regional road No. 243, Więzowno – Koronowo section, 2.6 km, cost PLN 4.6 million, project under acceptance;
  • Expansion of regional road No. 244, Jastrzębia Street in Żołędowo, 3.3 km, with over PLN 11 million preliminarily secured. This includes a bicycle path, stormwater drainage, lighting, and reconstruction of underground infrastructure. The project is prepared in cooperation with Osielsko Municipality, tender ongoing;
  • Modernization of regional road No. 244, Aleksandrowo – Strzelce Górne section, combined with the construction of a bike path and sidewalks, 1.5 km, cost PLN 4.7 million, project underway, prepared with Dobrcz Municipality.

Preparations are underway for further projects. Government funds will be used for the reconstruction of Garbary Street in Solec Kujawski (regional road No. 204). A request for a road construction permit (ZRID) has already been submitted. Once obtained, a tender for construction works will be announced. The estimated value of this project is approximately PLN 9 million.

A tender is ongoing to select a contractor for a technical-economic-environmental study for a new road connecting Bydgoszcz with the S5/S10 expressway junction in Białe Błota.

Documentation is being prepared for the construction of roundabouts on regional road No. 244 in Żołędowo and Strzelce Górne, and the reconstruction of the intersection in Prosperowo on regional road No. 243. European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie 2021–27 will be used for these projects.

Last year, in Bydgoszcz County, we opened the modernized regional road No. 254 from Brzoza to Łabiszyn and the reconstructed section of regional road No. 244 in Wtelno.

Record investments in roads

The regional program for the modernization of regional roads for the coming years will receive PLN 2 billion. Under the European Funds for Kujawsko-Pomorskie 2021–2027 (FEdKiP 2021–2027), our regional program for the new perspective, €136 million is allocated for road investments, including our regional bypass construction program. Some projects related to road infrastructure expansion will also use central funding (approx. PLN 170 million for bypasses and approx. PLN 450 million for other road expansions).
