75 Years of Wozownia

Operating in Toruń since 1950, the Marshal’s Art Gallery Wozownia received the Marshal of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship Medal Unitas Durat Palatinatus Cuiaviano-Pomeraniensis. On the occasion of its 75th anniversary, congratulations were extended on Friday (14 November) at a ceremonial vernissage by Vice-Marshal Zbigniew Ostrowski.

The time when the gallery was established was not easy for art. It was the middle of the Stalinist period, yet the people who built it had the ambition to create a space for independent thinkers, sensitive individuals, and those expressing a different view of the world. Very quickly, the gallery became an important center of cultural life in Toruń. In recognition of the gallery’s contributions over more than seven decades, the Marshal of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship decided to award it the Unitas Durat Palatinatus Cuiaviano-Pomeraniensis medal,” said Deputy Marshal Zbigniew Ostrowski during the anniversary celebration.

The 75th-anniversary celebrations are accompanied by photography exhibitions:

  • Franciszek Fuchs. Film drogi
  • Czas natury, czas drzewa (group exhibition)
  • Ciałobrazy. Mikro – makro – kosmos by Natalia Miedziak-Skonieczna
  • Mujeres Medina by Marta Kowalska
  • A PreFka review

Wozownia is the oldest and largest art gallery in Toruń. Initially, it operated as a branch of the Bydgoszcz Bureau of Art Exhibitions, and its venues included the Dom Plastyka and the Artus Court in the Old Town Market Square.

Exhibitions organized in 1977 featuring works by Władysław Hasior and scenography projects by Józef Szajna were among the most popular in the gallery’s history.

Today, the gallery operates in a fully renovated former Prussian artillery carriage house. In 2024, Wozownia welcomed 10,000 visitors who participated in 60 cultural events, including vernissages, workshops, and lectures organized by the gallery.

The regional government operates 17 cultural institutions, offering a wide range of cultural programs:
