24th International Biennial of Children and Youth Graphic Art
Four thousand works from 28 countries were submitted to the art competition held as part of the 24th edition of the International Biennial of Children and Youth Graphic Art, organized by the Children’s Art Gallery and Centre of Creativity in Toruń. The official closing ceremony and awards presentation took place today (October 17) at the Culture Mill (Młyn Kultury). The prize funded by Marshal Piotr Całbecki was awarded to Základní Umělecká Škola Terezie Brzkové from Plzeň, Czech Republic.
“The Biennial is not only a competition. Above all, it is an encouragement for teachers and their pupils to experiment with graphic techniques — challenging, yet highly satisfying and offering great scope for artistic expression. I congratulate the young participants on their creativity, sensitivity, and talent,” said Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
Participants of previous editions as well as newcomers submitted their works. Passionately created linocuts, papercuts, collagraphs, lithographs, drypoints, etchings, and aquatints testify to both the great creative imagination of the young artists and the dedication of their teachers, who so effectively pass on the complexities of graphic art and knowledge of its various techniques to their students.
A total of 850 works from 24 countries were selected for the post-competition exhibition. Eighty artists received individual awards.
Awards were also granted to institutions that submitted the most interesting collections of works:
- Základní Umělecká Škola Terezie Brzkové from Plzeň (Czech Republic) – Prize funded by Marshal Piotr Całbecki
- Osnovna Šola Sveti Jurij in Rogašovci (Slovenia) – Prize funded by the Mayor of Toruń, Paweł Gulewski
- Tadeusz Kantor Secondary School of Fine Arts in Dąbrowa Górnicza – Prize of the Children’s Art Gallery and Centre of Creativity in Toruń
The post-competition exhibition will be open to the public at the main Gallery premises on New Town of Toruń from October 18 to December 8, and at the Culture Mill (1st floor) from October 18 to December 31.
