13th Marshal’s Charity Ball: 860,000 PLN Raised

Thanks to the funds raised, the Educational Center of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Elizabeth in Grudziądz will renovate its gymnasium, while the Dorota Targowska and her Friends –  Dorotkowo Foundatio in Toruń will build an inclusive cultural center and expand its rehabilitation program. On Tuesday, March 19, Marshal Piotr Całbecki and his wife, Dagna Całbecka, summarized this exceptional event.

Every zloty is priceless and equally important, but the most valuable reward is the smiles of those we help. The generosity of the ball’s participants is immense. I thank everyone who accepts our invitations. I also extend my gratitude to the organizers and volunteers who, for many years, have dedicated themselves to preparing this event. It is the best charity ball of its kind in Poland,” emphasized Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

The main beneficiaries of the 13th Marshal’s Charity Ball are the Special Educational Center of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Elizabeth in Grudziądz and the Dorotkowo Foundation in Toruń.

The Grudziądz centre supports boys with intellectual disabilities aged six to twenty-four. The Dorotkowo Foundation focuses on treatment and rehabilitation for people with disabilities, particularly Down syndrome, and provides assistance to their families.

Each institution in Grudziądz and Toruń will receive 150,000 PLN. Additionally, 17 beneficiaries from previous years will each receive 27,000 PLN, while four international missions will be granted a total of 100,000 PLN.

During the ball, which took place on January 18 at the Jordanki Cultural and Congress Centre in Toruń, 150 items were auctioned, including artwork, jewelry, clothing, and surprise items worth over half a million PLN in total.

The highest bid was for a work by Julian Fałat, which sold for 220,000 PLN. A Murano glass sculpture was auctioned for 120,000 PLN, and a painting used in the film The Peasants by Maria Koli fetched 30,000 PLN.

One of three “mystery bags” also sold for 30,000 PLN—inside, the winning bidder found a block of butter.

This year’s Marshal’s Charity Ball welcomed singer Robert Janowski, director Jerzy Skolimowski, and actors Aleksandra and Magdalena Popławskie and Łukasz Simlat. The event also gathered local government officials, politicians, academics, people of business, and cultural figures.

Over the past twelve editions of the Marshal’s Charity Ball, a total of 3 million PLN has been raised, with 4,400 guests participating in the events.
