Archbishop Henryk Muszyński
Archbishop Muszyński, born in 1933, was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship on June 7, 2019. A professor of theology and a biblical scholar, Archbishop Muszyński served in various capacities, including as auxiliary bishop of the Chełmno Diocese, bishop of the Włocławek Diocese, and archbishop of the Gniezno Archdiocese. He is not only a distinguished figure in the Catholic Church and an academic but also a person greatly respected for his contributions to dialogue with Judaism and the Eastern Churches. His life as a priest, pastor, diocesan administrator, Primate of Poland, member of key Vatican institutions, scholar, and academic teacher has been dedicated to the values of ecumenism, dialogue, reconciliation, and mutual understanding.
“He is someone who has proven that a common path is possible when common goals are set and pursued sincerely. His life story is intertwined with the history of our lands. Through his service in the Pelplin, Włocławek, and finally Gniezno dioceses, he not only helped shape our history but, above all, formed lasting connections with many people for whom he is a mentor and true friend,” the resolution states.
