Provincial Children’s Hospital: The Patient and Their Well-Being Come First

The Provincial Children’s Hospital in Bydgoszcz, consistently ranked among Poland’s leading paediatric hospitals, is one of the few centres in the country specialising in the surgical and oncological treatment of complex head and neck tumours. It is also a leading centre for the treatment of hearing loss, with its otolaryngology and neurosurgery teams performing pioneering procedures. The hospital, administered by the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region, is currently constructing a state-of-the-art Organ Diagnostics Centre, which will include two MRI suites, a flow cytometry laboratory, and endoscopy and ultrasound units.

“A truly outstanding medical centre is one where excellent facilities and top-quality equipment go hand in hand with exceptional medical professionals. This is exactly the case at the Provincial Children’s Hospital in Bydgoszcz. I am delighted that the hospital’s management has succeeded in bringing together such highly qualified specialists. These are people to whom we entrust the health and lives of our children without hesitation, knowing that the patient and their well-being always come first,” emphasised Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

The hospital has 226 inpatient beds and employs 600 healthcare professionals. In addition to its renowned achievements in paediatric surgery, otolaryngology, and neurosurgery, it has also seen a steadily increasing number of hospital admissions, treating 19,000 inpatients last year.

The nearly completed Organ Diagnostics Centre is one of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region’s most important healthcare investments this year. With a total cost of PLN 60 million, the project will significantly improve access to advanced diagnostic services, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), gastrointestinal endoscopy, and ultrasound examinations. It will also shorten the diagnostic pathway, particularly for patients receiving outpatient specialist care. This is especially important given the continued long waiting times for diagnostic imaging.

The new three-storey building, with 3,500 square metres of usable floor space, will house diagnostic units equipped with the latest medical technology, including two MRI suites, a flow cytometry laboratory, an endoscopy unit, and an ultrasound department relocated from the existing hospital building. It will also include a two-level car park with 93 parking spaces. The new facility will be functionally connected to the hospital’s existing specialist outpatient clinic building.

Construction is scheduled for completion by the end of the year, with the procurement and installation of medical equipment planned for the first months of 2027.
