Włocławek Hospital: Investments for a New Beginning

Marshal Piotr Całbecki and Member of the Regional Executive Board Marek Wojtkowski visited the Regional Specialist Hospital in Włocławek today. The hospital has just completed the largest medical modernization project in its history, is carrying out a major expansion of its facilities, and is actively preparing for further planned investments.

The purchase of state-of-the-art medical equipment, financed through Poland’s National Recovery Plan (KPO), amounted to PLN 50 million. The procurement included approximately 250 items, among them a surgical robot and a highly specialized robotic system for neurosurgical procedures.

General-purpose surgical robots, used for procedures such as urological and gynecological operations, are already in use at several hospitals across the region, including two institutions run by the regional government: the Bydgoszcz Oncology Centre and the Provincial Integrated Hospital in Toruń.

However, the advanced system for highly precise brain and spinal surgery represents a technological breakthrough not only regionally but also nationally. The system includes the Mazor X neurosurgical robot, featuring 3D visualization and ultra-precise robotic arm guidance, as well as a neuronavigation system and an intraoperative imaging device known as an O-arm.

The Regional Specialist Hospital in Włocławek is the fourth hospital in Poland, the sixteenth in Europe, and the first in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region to use this technology.

A new five-storey main hospital building—destined to become the heart of the facility—is currently under construction. It will house:

  • the admissions department and emergency department,
  • the main operating theatre complex,
  • the maternity ward and delivery suite,
  • the intensive care unit,
  • inpatient wards,
  • an endoscopy unit,
  • the hospital pharmacy,
  • and the central sterilization department.

In line with modern healthcare standards, the building will also include a rooftop helipad for air ambulance services. Construction is progressing rapidly, with completion scheduled for spring 2027.

At the same time, advanced preparations are underway for the construction of a six-storey parking facility with 472 parking spaces. The project is being managed by Kujawsko-Pomorskie Medical Investments, a company owned by the regional government.

The parking structure will include electric vehicle charging stations. Work is currently focused on developing the functional and operational programme and obtaining the required permits. A tender for the construction contractor is expected to be announced later this quarter. The first vehicles are expected to use the facility in the second quarter of 2028.

Among the investments planned for the near future is also the construction of a long-term nursing and care facility.
