Screenwriter of Holoubek’s Productions to Speak in Toruń About His New Book
Kasper Bajon – screenwriter, film director, and author – will be the guest of an author meeting at the University Library in Toruń on 13 May.
Kasper Bajon is best known as the writer of screenplays for acclaimed Netflix series directed by Jan Holoubek, recipient of the 2023 Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region Marshal’s Film Award. Together, the filmmakers contributed to the success of productions such as “Rojst”, “Rojst ’97”, “Wielka woda”, and “Heweliusz.” The last two titles earned Bajon awards from the Polish Screenwriters Guild.
He also wrote and directed the Netflix series “Project UFO.” His filmography includes auteur cinema as well: together with his wife Klara Kochańska, he co-wrote and directed the festival-acclaimed film “Via Carpatia,” about a married couple travelling along the so-called Balkan route used by refugees.
Kasper Bajon is also the author of ten novels, including “Fuerte,” a reportage-style story about Fuerteventura that reached the final stage of the 2021 Nike Literary Award. On Wednesday, 13 May, he will come to Toruń to discuss his latest book, “Colonial Poznań: A Family History with Tanzania in the Background.” In it, he reconstructs the fate of his ancestors, who in the 19th century were connected to the German colonization of East Africa. A hundred years later, Bajon followed in their footsteps to Tanzania to see the effects of European exploitation of the country.
The meeting at the University Library in Toruń begins at 1:00 p.m. It will be hosted by Professor Dariusz Pniewski from the Institute of Literary Studies at Nicolaus Copernicus University. The event is part of the National Library Week organized by the Polish Librarians’ Association.
