Agata Turkot Awarded in Washington for Her Role in The Good House
“For a performance that is courageous, necessary, and deeply human” – this is how the jury of the Polish Film Festival in Washington justified its choice for Best Actress.
This was the third edition of the Polish Film Festival organized in the capital of the United States by the Kościuszko Foundation. The jury, chaired by Liliana Komorowska, awarded Agata Turkot the Best Actress prize for her role as Gośka – a victim of domestic violence – in Dom dobry by Wojciech Smarzowski. The film was produced in cooperation with the Kujawy Pomorze Film Fund.
“It is a moving and remarkably socially relevant portrayal of domestic violence, a performance carrying the weight of truth and authenticity,” the Washington festival jury stated. “Agata Turkot gives something more than a role. She creates a space for recognizing pain, silence, and strength. There is no distance or protection here. There is only presence. Actors have the power to reveal worlds we might otherwise never confront. Thanks to this role, something changes – not only within the story itself, but beyond it as well. It gives voice and it gives strength.”
This is another distinction for Agata Turkot for her courageous performance in The Good House. Earlier this year, she received the Zbyszek Cybulski Award for talented young actors, and in March she won the prestigious Polish Film Award (the Eagles) for her role as Gośka. She also received the Special Jury Prize at the most recent Warsaw Film Festival.
Agata Turkot graduated from the acting department of the Łódź Film School in 2018. Her credits include roles in the TV series Na noże, Leśniczówka, and Na dobre i na złe, as well as the films Wesele 2, Poskromienie złośnicy 2, czyli wiele hałasu o nic, and Przysięga Ireny.
