Bydgoszcz – our region’s growth engine, an important cultural hub, a major academic center, and a place of rapidly developing medicine and business – is celebrating the 680th anniversary of receiving city rights. Today’s official ceremonies are attended by Vice-Marshal Zbigniew Ostrowski and Member of the Regional Executive Board Dariusz Kurzawa.

“Bydgoszcz, our regional pole of growth and development, thanks to EU funding and the dedicated stewardship of the regional authorities, is becoming a truly European city – with an increasingly strong business sector, world-class healthcare, significant cultural institutions, thriving universities, well-organized public transport, and thoughtfully planned recreational areas. Due to its potential and population, the city is a priority for the regional self-government, which allocates funding proportionate to its importance. It is in Bydgoszcz that flagship cultural institutions and medical facilities of the region are located, along with many other regional entities shaping the face of the city and the region. Prestigious annual cultural events, generously funded by the regional administration, also take place here. By working hard for the city, we are fulfilling our responsibilities – and doing so very well,” emphasizes Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

The Marshal’s institutions – Opera Nova and Pomeranian Philharmonic – along with their flagship recurring events, the Bydgoszcz Opera Festival and the Bydgoszcz Music Festival, are key highlights when discussing culture. In the field of healthcare, pride is taken in institutions such as the Oncology Centre, the Regional Children’s Hospital, the Regional Pulmonology Centre, and the Regional Infectious Diseases Hospital – all continuously modernized, expanded, and equipped.

Bydgoszcz celebrates its anniversary throughout the year, with the main events – exhibitions, concerts, and other commemorative activities – scheduled for April. Today, the main official events in the city on the Brda River include a ceremonial session of the City Council and a concert featuring Stabat Mater by Karl Jenkins, both held in the symphonic hall at the new campus of the Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz.
