Kcynia Returns to the Railway Map
From 2027, eight pairs of trains to Wągrowiec and six to Nakło will run regularly from the railway station in Kcynia (Nakło County). The trains, which will return to the Pałuki region after 22 years, will primarily enable residents to travel towards Poznań. Currently, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe is carrying out advanced modernization works on the railway infrastructure along the Nakło – Kcynia – regional border route.
“By implementing the regional self-government’s transport policy, we are consistently expanding the railway network. Very good cooperation with the Ministry of Infrastructure and PKP PLK, which finance the modernization of railway infrastructure, enables the reactivation of connections and improves residents’ access to rail transport. This year we are restoring additional routes – from Laskowice Pomorskie to Wierzchucin and from Brodnica to Rypin. The next step will be launching services to Kcynia. Thanks to talks with the Wielkopolskie Regional Self-Government, trains that currently terminate in Gołańcz will, in the new year, continue to Nakło,” said Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
The regional self-government will allocate 5 million PLN in subsidies for trains between Nakło and Kcynia and between Kcynia and the border with the Wielkopolskie Region. Under an agreement with the Marshal’s Office in Poznań, these services will be operated by Koleje Wielkopolskie.
Tracks, sleepers, stops
The launch of services will be possible after the completion and commissioning of the railway infrastructure. Currently, renovation works are underway on lines 356 and 281, financed from PKP PLK’s own funds.
As part of the project, rails are being replaced along over 26 km and sleepers along nearly 20 km. Platform 1 at Kcynia station and stops in Szczepice, Studzienki, and Grocholin (Kcynia municipality) are also being renovated. Thanks to the renewal of surfaces at 19 rail-road crossings, drivers will be able to cross the tracks more safely and comfortably. Repair works are also being carried out on 31 engineering structures (e.g., bridges, viaducts, culverts). After the installation of new railway traffic control systems, trains on this route will reach speeds of up to 120 km/h. The works have passed the halfway point. The investment will be completed this winter, with a total cost of 57 million PLN.
New connections
The railway connection to Kcynia is one of several routes being reactivated by the regional self-government.
Since December 2025, thanks to cooperation between local governments (Aleksandrów County, the towns of Aleksandrów Kujawski and Ciechocinek, and the municipality of Aleksandrów Kujawski) and the Marshal’s Office, trains have been running daily on the Toruń – Aleksandrów Kujawski – Ciechocinek route.
By the end of this year, regional rail connections on the Rypin – Brodnica and Laskowice Pomorskie – Wierzchucin routes will also be reactivated.
With the summer timetable adjustment, popular trains to well-known holiday resorts on the Baltic coast and in the Tuchola Forest will return to the tracks.
The Marshal’s Office will spend a record 267 million PLN on rail transport in 2026. This amount includes fees for access to railway infrastructure and station charges – 37 million PLN.
Over the twelve months of this year, regional trains will cover a record 7.5 million kilometers.
