Winner of the Marshal’s Film Award honored by the Screenwriters Guild

Wojciech Smarzowski received the Polish Screenwriters Guild Award for the screenplay of “Dom dobry” (“The Good House”), which was the most-watched Polish production of 2025. The partner of the film is the local government of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region.

The Polish Screenwriters Guild Awards have been granted since 2023 for outstanding achievements “in the field of screenwriting.” The winners of the 4th edition were announced on March 21 during a gala at the Kultura Cinema in Warsaw. Earlier, members of the Guild nominated the authors of the best film scripts of the past year.

The award for a feature-length film screenplay went to Wojciech Smarzowski, author of “Dom dobry.” Other nominees in this category included: Magnus von Horn and Line Langebek (“The Girl with the Needle”), Kordian Kądziela and Michał Wawrzecki (“Larp. Love, Trolls and Other Quests”), Piotr Domalewski (“Ministranci”), as well as Korek Bojanowski and Katia Priwieziencew (“Loss of Balance”).

“Dom dobry” was the most-watched Polish film of 2025, attracting nearly 2.5 million viewers in cinemas. Its production involved companies and individuals from the region. The film was produced by the Bydgoszcz-based company Lucky Bob, run by Wojciech Gostomczyk and the late Janusz Hetman. The partner of the film is the local government of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region.

“Dom dobry” received five Polish Academy Awards (Orły 2026), including all the major ones: Best Film of the Year, Best Director for Wojciech Smarzowski, Best Leading Actress for Agata Turkot, Best Leading Actor for Tomasz Schuchardt, and Best Music for Mikołaj Trzaska.

Wojciech Smarzowski is a graduate of the cinematography department of the Łódź Film School. He made his directorial debut in 1998 with “Małżowina,” and gained recognition with “The Wedding” (2004). His artistic achievements include such acclaimed and award-winning films as “Dom zły,” “Róża,” “Drogówka,” “Pod Mocnym Aniołem,” “Wołyń,” “Kler,” and “Wesele 2.” In October last year, he received the Marshal of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region Film Award named after Pola Negri.

Among this year’s winners of the Polish Screenwriters Guild Awards were also: Kasper Bajon for a TV series screenplay (“Heweliusz”), Cezary Harasimowicz for lifetime achievement, and Andrzej Mellin for contributions to screenwriting.
