WIC Kujawy Pomorze 26: This fan zone is for you!
Fans of athletics, lovers of modern music, and anyone who enjoys spending time outdoors during the Kujawy Pomorze 26 Indoor World Championships are invited to a purpose-built fan zone, officially opened today (March 20) at the Nowomiejski Market Square in Toruń by Vice-Marshal of the region, Aneta Jędrzejewska.
“This fan zone is for you!” said Vice-Marshal Aneta Jędrzejewska. “There will be plenty of sporting excitement, cultural attractions, and delicious food. I’m sure everyone will find something for themselves here. Come along, bring your friends, and feel the spirit of the queen of sports.”
The official opening ceremony at Nowomiejski Market Square was also attended by four-time Olympic champion in race walking Robert Korzeniowski, 800 m world champion Adam Kszczot, and Deputy Mayor of Toruń Adam Szponka.
The opening of the fan zone coincided with the conclusion of our “50 Relays of Kujawy and Pomorze” campaign. The symbolic relay baton was handed over to Vice-Marshal Aneta Jędrzejewska by Adam Kszczot.
Broadcasts
Several thousand spectators can watch live coverage of the Kujawy Pomorze 26 Indoor World Championships in the fan zone. With competitions shown on large screens in a heated tent and on the main stage, fans won’t miss a moment. All championship sessions are broadcast daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
Meet the athletes
Each day begins with a morning run led by Adam Kszczot. The fan zone will also host meetings with top athletes, including Marek Plawgo, Marcin Lewandowski, Piotr Małachowski, Iga Baumgart-Witan, Sofia Ennaoui, Małgorzata Hołub-Kowalik, Nelli Cooman (NED), Daniel Komen (KEN), Ryan Whiting (USA), Noureddine Morceli (ALG), and Olympic silver medalist in speed skating Vladimir Semirunnij.
Athletics for everyone
The fan zone offers a wide range of attractions for both children and adults. Visitors can test their skills using equipment used by the world’s top athletes, including a Mondo track with starting blocks and professional timing, a long jump measurement mat, and a vertical jump measuring device. Fans can even handle real athletics equipment and see how high world pole vault record holder Armand Duplantis jumps.
For younger visitors, there is a dedicated zone with animators and engaging activities. The area also features modern technologies such as VR goggles for virtual athletics competitions, a PlayStation station, and an AI photo booth.
Visitors can also collect a “Champion’s Passport” (available at the information point). Those who fill it with stickers earned through activities in different zones will receive unique Kujawy Pomorze 26 souvenirs.
Theatre and music
A major musical highlight will be Saturday’s (March 21, 4:30 PM) concert by Fukaj, one of the most exciting representatives of the young Polish rap scene. The energetic atmosphere will be enhanced throughout the three days by well-known DJs DJ Funktion and DJ Pac1. The audience will also enjoy spectacular performances by the Ocelot Theatre, combining acrobatics, ballet, music, and pantomime.
Flavours of Kujawy and Pomorze
The food zone features stands run by local rural women’s associations and agricultural producers offering regional specialties. In the sustainability zone, visitors can find information points from regional landscape parks—Brodnica, Krajeńskie, Wda, and the Lower Vistula Valley—as well as institutions involved in environmental protection and municipal services.
Parade and opening ceremony
The fan zone will also serve as the starting point for a colorful parade, which will set off on Friday (March 20) at 3:30 PM towards the Old Town Square, where the official opening of the Indoor World Championships will take place. Performances there will include Oskar Cyms, Ray Wilson, and Gromee.
The queen of sports in photos
Fans can explore interesting facts about athletics on informational panels displayed in the square. In the former Evangelical church at Nowomiejski Market Square (Camerimage cinema), visitors can see the exhibition “History of Polish Athletics.”
Along Królowej Jadwigi Street (from Empik to the fan zone), visitors can already view the exhibition “Relay of Kujawy and Pomorze. 50 Days of a Shared Journey,” featuring photos from the relay route.
Exhibition in the shopping center
Until Sunday (March 22), a free exhibition prepared by the Museum of World Athletics (MOWA) is open to the public, showcasing medals, uniforms, shoes, and equipment used by the greatest stars of athletics.
