140,000 bus connections in the region

Commissioned by the Marshal’s Office, buses carrying passengers on 69 routes across our region will travel a total of 7.3 million kilometres this year. This is half a million kilometres more than last year. Such a significant increase has been made possible thanks to higher funding for bus transport from the regional government’s budget and the Bus Transport Development Fund (FRPA).

Spending on bus transport includes not only a record PLN 22 million from the Bus Transport Development Fund, but also PLN 9.5 million from the regional government’s own budget. Thanks to this multi-million-zloty investment, we are able to maintain a network of routes with a total length of as much as 4,200 kilometres,”
emphasizes Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

Last year, PLN 20 million from the FRPA was allocated to bus services in the region, with an own contribution of PLN 6.8 million. Passenger numbers on regional bus routes have also been steadily increasing for three years. Last year, we carried 1.5 million passengers.

New eco-friendly buses

The regional government is modernising its bus fleet. We have purchased forty modern, eco-friendly and comfortable buses (15 hybrid and 25 electric) for PLN 125 million, obtaining support from the National Recovery Plan (KPO) amounting to PLN 91 million. As a result, the Marshal’s Office–owned company Kujawsko-Pomorski Transport Samochodowy, based in Włocławek, now operates the most modern bus fleet in the country.

The first vehicles arrived in our region in December last year. The entire contract will be completed by mid-2026. The new buses will be introduced onto the roads of Kujawsko-Pomorskie on a rolling basis.

To serve the new fleet, new charging stations are being built. We are also modernising the facilities of our operator, Kujawsko-Pomorski Transport Samochodowy. At the invitation of the regional government, which is the company’s main shareholder, 25 municipalities and 8 counties have joined the project.

Bus transport in figures:

  • PLN 22 million in FRPA funding
  • PLN 9.5 million own contribution
  • 7.3 million kilometres travelled
  • 1,400 bus connections
  • 69 routes

The regional government is also the organiser of rail services in the region. Expenditure on rail transport will reach a record PLN 267 million in 2026. This amount includes fees for access to rail infrastructure and station charges totalling PLN 37 million.
