Interventional Neurology ICU at Biziel Hospital Reopens After Modernization

Marshal Piotr Całbecki and Minister of Health Jolanta Sobierańska-Grenda are taking part today (18 February) in the opening ceremony of the modernized Neurological Intensive Care Unit of the Clinic of Neurosurgery and Neurophysiology at the Dr. Antoni Jurasz University Hospital No. 1 (Biziel Hospital) in Bydgoszcz. The event is accompanied by a scientific conference dedicated to ten years of experience with the use of mechanical thrombectomy at the hospitala medical procedure regarded as the most effective and one of the most advanced methods of treating ischemic stroke.

“Biziel Hospital is one of the country’s leading centers for the diagnosis and modern treatment of strokes – one of the most serious civilization diseases of the modern world, which also affects young and professionally active people. It also plays a key role in our region’s stroke care system, as a reference facility performing highly specialized medical procedures and the only center in our region that carries out mechanical thrombectomy procedures around the clock. I thank the clinic’s team for their contribution to the development of modern interventional neurology. I am pleased that the modernized unit will support the fulfillment of this mission,” emphasized Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

The modernization of the Neurological Intensive Care Unit at the Clinic of Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology of Biziel Hospital (which functions as an interventional stroke treatment center) cost PLN 2.4 million and was financed with a preferential support loan granted by the Marshal’s Kujawsko-Pomorskie Development Fund. Upon meeting the designated investment indicators, 85% of the loan will be forgiven. As a result of the project, the unit has also been expanded and now has six intensive care beds (up from four prior to the investment).

In addition to Marshal Piotr Całbecki and Minister Sobierańska-Grenda, today’s scientific conference is attended by Voivode Michał Sztybel, Rector of Nicolaus Copernicus University Professor Andrzej Tretyn, Vice-Rector of the University’s Collegium Medicum Professor Dariusz Grzanka, as well as researchers and practitioners specializing in modern interventional neurology.
