Orły 2026: “Dom dobry” Sets a Record with Nominations for the Polish Oscars

Productions supported by our Kujawsko-Pomorskie Film Fund will compete for the prestigious Orły statuettes. Dom dobry by Wojciech Smarzowski received as many as 13 nominations, while Chopin Chopin! by Michał Kwieciński earned eight.

On 11 February, the Polish Film Academy announced the list of nominated films, actors, and filmmakers competing for the Orły statuettes—the most important awards in Polish cinema.

The 28th edition of the Polish Film Awards, also known as the Polish Oscars, sums up the achievements of domestic cinematography over the past year. The awards ceremony will take place on 9 March at the Polish Theatre in Warsaw.

The most nominations—an impressive 13—went to the widely discussed Dom dobry, directed by Wojciech Smarzowski. The production, co-financed by our Kujawsko-Pomorskie Film Fund, is in the running for Orły statuettes in 12 different categories, including the most prestigious ones: Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and acting awards.

Smarzowski’s latest work—whose director received the Marshal of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship Film Award named after Pola Negri in October last year—was the most-watched Polish title of the past year. Since its premiere on 7 November, it has drawn over 2.4 million cinema viewers. The partner of the film is the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship local government. Entities and individuals from our region were involved in its production. The film was produced by the Bydgoszcz-based company Lucky Bob, owned by Wojciech Gostomczyk. For her role as Gośka—a victim of domestic violence—Agata Turkot received the prestigious Zbyszek Cybulski Award for the most talented young actors.

Ten nominations for Orły 2026 were awarded to the films Brat by Maciej Sobieszczański, Franz Kafka by Agnieszka Holland, and There Are No Ghosts in the Apartment on Dobra Street by Emi Buchwald.

Meanwhile, another high-profile production supported by our Kujawsko-Pomorskie Film Fund—Chopin Chopin! by Michał Kwieciński—received eight Polish Oscar nominations. Eryk Kulm will compete for the Orzeł statuette for Best Leading Actor for his portrayal of Fryderyk Chopin conquering Parisian salons. In November last year, during the 33rd edition of the Camerimage festival in Toruń, Kulm received the Marshal of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship Film Award from Piotr Całbecki. The budget of Chopin, Chopin! reached PLN 72 million, making it one of the largest and most ambitious Polish productions of recent years. Among those with a chance to win an Orzeł is also the film’s cinematographer, Michał Sobociński.

Competing for the most prestigious title of Best Film at the 28th Orły Awards are: Brat, Dom dobry, Franz Kafka, Ministrants, and There Are No Ghosts in the Apartment on Dobra Street. A total of 69 productions applied for nominations in this category.

The Polish Film Awards are annual honors granted by the Polish Film Academy since 1999. The initiator of the Orły Awards is film director and producer Dariusz Jabłoński. The statuettes are currently awarded in 20 categories, with voting carried out by more than 800 members of the Academy—renowned actors and acclaimed filmmakers.
