Three thousand upper-secondary school students from the region took part in the second edition of the “Young People’s Forum – because what is new is hope”, held on Monday (26 January). On the National Transplantation Day, young people listened to lectures by transplant physicians and to personal stories shared by transplant recipients. The regional self-government, which co-financed the event, was represented by Member of the Regional Executive Board Marek Wojtkowski.

“The Young People’s Forum is a unique event where you will gain extensive knowledge about transplantology – a field of medicine that saves lives,” said Member of the Regional Board Marek Wojtkowski to the audience during the ceremonial opening of the forum. “The regional government will continue to support organizers who promote this important topic among young people.”

Guests of the Young People’s Forum included, among others, Professor Zbigniew Włodarczyk, Head of the Department of Transplantology and General Surgery at Dr. A. Jurasz University Hospital No. 1 in Bydgoszcz; Professor Maciej Słupski, Head of the Department of General Surgery, Liver Surgery and Transplant Surgery at University Hospital No. 1 in Bydgoszcz; and Professor Wiesław Jędrzejczak – an oncologist, hematologist and transplantologist who carried out the first bone marrow transplant in Poland 40 years ago.

Personal transplant experiences were also shared during the event by Przemysław Saleta, Mariusz Mroziewicz, Joanna Gracz, and Celina and Paweł Kozikowscy.

The Toruń Young People’s Forum was the sixth event of this kind organized in Poland.
