Will films from our region make it onto the Polish Film Heritage List?
Films made in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region may be included on the Polish Film Heritage List. They can be submitted only until 25 January. There is little time left, so we will try to help with the selection. Nearly 40 productions meet the formal criteria.
The Polish Film Heritage List (LPDF) is an initiative of the National Film Archive – Audiovisual Institute (FINA), intended to become a central element of reflection on the history of Polish cinema and its place in national culture. It currently includes 70 films. Proposals to expand the list can now be submitted.
The first 70 titles were selected by a curatorial team. Each year, the list will be expanded by another 10 films, and the public will also have a role in this process. Until 25 January, viewers can use the form available on the FINA website to submit one Polish film produced between 1905 and 2006 – feature, documentary, animated or experimental; short or feature-length; a recognised classic or a genre film they personally value. It would be worth including films connected with Kujawy and Pomorze as well.

The LPDF was inaugurated on 27 October 2025 – on World Day for Audiovisual Heritage – during celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the National Film Archive – Audiovisual Institute.
The list is not a ranking of the “best” Polish films in an artistic or commercial sense. Its aim is to highlight productions that have had a particular impact on Polish culture, collective memory and imagination. It presents cinema as a carrier of meaningful and important content, not merely entertainment.
Eligible titles must be at least 20 years old, and each director may appear on the list a maximum of two times. The selection is very broad and includes classic feature films, documentaries, animation, student and amateur cinema, experimental works, as well as films significant in technological or social terms.
The announcement of the List is accompanied by a series of discussions, expert meetings and film screenings at the Iluzjon cinema, intended to deepen the debate on the history and role of Polish cinema.

Kujawsko-Pomorskie as a film set
The Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region is becoming increasingly recognisable on Poland’s film map. This is thanks to the active work of the Kujawy and Pomorze Film Fund, established on the initiative of the regional self-government. Films were also made in our region before the fund was created. We can boast over 150 productions connected in various ways with Kujawy and Pomorze. However, only one film has made it onto the Polish Film Heritage List so far – “Rejs” by Marek Piwowski, filmed among other places in Toruń, which premiered in 1970. Now this may change thanks to the new call.
To make choosing a film easier, we have prepared a list of films that were shot in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region or were produced by film studios based here. There are nearly 40 of them. From year to year, the number of local candidates will grow, as in this edition of voting it is possible to submit films made before 2006.
