Meeting of the European Councillors’ Corps (EKR)

How to use European funds for local governments, grants for non-governmental organisations, and programmes of the Regional Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management were the key topics addressed today (3 December) by members of the European Councillors’ Corps (EKR). This is the fourth meeting this year of the body established on the initiative of Marshal Piotr Całbecki, composed of representatives of local governments from our region. Elżbieta Piniewska, President of the Regional Parliament, also attended the meeting.

“The Corps promotes the ideas of the European Union,” emphasises Marshal Piotr Całbecki. “The body builds residents’ trust in European structures and shows them the benefits resulting from our presence in the community.”

At the headquarters of the Provincial Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (WFOŚiGW) in Toruń, EKR members learned about the Fund’s programmes available to local governments, NGOs, and individuals. An important part of the meeting also included presentations on competitions dedicated to local governments and third-sector entities, through which they can obtain grants from European funds.

EKR Councillors met three times this year.

The European Councillors’ Corps, created two years ago on the initiative of Marshal Piotr Całbecki and modelled on a similar solution in Normandy, France, is the only such body in Poland. This new initiative within the Regional Government Forum of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region is a platform for cooperation, exchange of experience, and promotion of good practices in local and regional development, with particular emphasis on EU development support. Delegates were appointed by the councils of municipalities, cities, and counties of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region.

The term of office of the European Councillors’ Corps, inaugurated this winter, will last until 2029.
