The Kujawy-Pomorze Film Fund invites you to a special screening of “Dom dobry”

Actors and creators of Dom dobry, led by director Wojtek Smarzowski, will be the guests of a special screening at the “Niebieski kocyk” cinema in Toruń.

Smarzowski’s latest film is the most-watched Polish production of the year. Since its premiere on 7 November, it has attracted 1.8 million viewers, making Dom dobry the director’s second most popular film, right after Clergy (2018), which drew nearly 6 million viewers.

The new film’s partner is the Kujawsko-Pomorskie regional government — Dom dobry received funding from the Kujawy-Pomorze Film Fund. Numerous companies and individuals from the region contributed to its production. It was produced by the Bydgoszcz-based company Lucky Bob, with Wojciech Gostomczyk and Janusz Hetman as producers. Joanna Drzewiecka, Andrzej Drzewiecki, and Adam Gudell served as executive producers and co-producers, and Waldemar Kotecki joined as a co-producer.

On Tuesday, 25 November, the Kujawy-Pomorze Film Fund invites viewers to a special screening of Dom dobry at the “Niebieski kocyk” cinema in Toruń. Guests will include actors and creators such as Wojtek Smarzowski, Agata Kulesza, and Agata Turkot. The event will be hosted by film critic Błażej Hrapkowicz. The screening begins at 6 p.m.

Dom dobry had its world premiere in September at the 50th Gdynia Polish Film Festival, where it competed in the main competition. Its title references Smarzowski’s acclaimed 2009 film Dom zły, and its central theme is domestic violence in a Polish family.

“When Gośka (Agata Turkot) meets Grzesiek (Tomasz Schuchardt) online, she’s convinced he’s The One. Grzesiek becomes obsessed with her, showers her with flowers, proposes in Venice. It has to be love, right? But cracks soon appear in this perfect picture. Before long, their shared home becomes the most dangerous place for Gośka. Smarzowski looks inside ‘good homes,’ where things happen that most people prefer not to talk about,” reads the press announcement. “Dom dobry is a film about the boundaries of love — one that cannot be forgotten.”

The cast also includes Maria Sobocińska, Andrzej Konopka, and Arkadiusz Jakubik.

At the 41st Warsaw Film Festival, Dom dobry received a Special Jury Award. “Through their performances, Agata Turkot and Tomasz Schuchardt turn a brutal, tragic story into a tense psychological drama that explores the darkest corners of human nature,” stated the jury.

Smarzowski graduated from the cinematography department of the Łódź Film School. He made his directorial debut in 1998 with Małżowina, but it was The Wedding (2004) that brought him widespread recognition. His rich career includes such acclaimed and award-winning films as Dom zły, Róża, Traffic Department, The Mighty Angel, Volhynia, Clergy, and The Wedding 2. In October, during the Bydgoszcz premiere of Dom dobry at Opera Nova, the director received the Pola Negri Film Award from the Marshal of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship.

On 28 November, another production funded by the Kujawy-Pomorze Film Fund will hit cinemas — the romantic comedy Piernikowe serce, directed by Piotr Wereśniak.
