On the future of the Common Agricultural Policy
Marshal Piotr Całbecki is taking part in debates in Brussels devoted to shaping the EU budget for the new financial perspective. This topic is also being discussed at the meeting of the Commission for Natural Resources (NAT) of the European Committee of the Regions, chaired by the head of our region.
“The European Commission’s announcement that it will introduce amendments to the draft budget is a step in the right direction. It opens up space for discussion on the future of the Common Agricultural Policy, which we must use wisely,” emphasizes Marshal Piotr Całbecki. “Farmers are struggling with rising production costs and operating amid uncertainty, as a result of which Europe is losing several farms every day. It is therefore necessary to set clear directions and a coherent strategy developed in close cooperation with farmers.”
Last year, Marshal Całbecki, together with Isilda Gomes, then chair of the Commission for Natural Resources, prepared a document on the future of the Common Agricultural Policy, highlighting the need for its modernization in response to environmental and social challenges, with a strong emphasis on its regionalization. Several hundred stakeholders took part in the preparatory work on the opinion, including farmers from the Kujawsko-Pomorskie region, as well as EU institutions and international and non-governmental organizations.
Marshal Piotr Całbecki also participated in a conference on the European tourism data space (Deploytour).
