Bydgoszcz–Włocławek: One Million Passengers

Four million travelers used our regional rail passenger services in the first six months of this year. The most popular regional line—from Włocławek through Toruń to Bydgoszcz—carried one million passengers during this period. Trains to Tuchola and Chojnice, as well as services from Bydgoszcz, Toruń, and Inowrocław to the Wielkopolskie Region, are also very popular.

“Our regional rail connections are enjoying increasing popularity. Between the largest cities of the region, one million passengers have traveled in the first six months alone. We anticipate that 8 million travelers will use our trains this year,” emphasizes Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

Most Popular Rail Lines (data from the first six months of 2025):

  • Bydgoszcz–Toruń–Włocławek – 1 million passengers
  • Bydgoszcz–Wierzchucin–Tuchola–Chojnice – 500,000 passengers
  • Toruń/Bydgoszcz–Inowrocław–Gniezno – 400,000 passengers

For social reasons, we also maintain the line with the lowest ridership—from Wierzchucin to Szlachta. On this route, an average of only 29 passengers boarded the train (in the first six months). We subsidize the operating costs of this connection with 2 million złoty per year (this amount includes compensation for the operator, infrastructure access fees, and station charges).

New Connections

Additional rail connections will be added as early as December. The new connection to Ciechocinek (Aleksandrów County) will be launched on December 14. Next year, regular services to Wierzchucin (Tuchola County) will be added, and after the railway infrastructure is renovated, trains will also run to Rypin and Kcynia (Nakło County).

Currently, 75% of passenger rail connections in the region are already operated by modern vehicles purchased by the regional self-government.

In 2025, subsidies from the Marshal’s Office for passenger transport amount to 237 million złoty. This sum covers compensation for Arriva and Polregio, as well as infrastructure access fees and station charges—31.3 million złoty.
