Kunegunda Grudzień from Radziejów County celebrated her 100th birthday on November 3. On this special occasion, she was visited by Marek Wojtkowski, a Member of the Regional Executive Board, who presented her with the Marshal’s Medal Unitas Durat Palatinatus Cuiaviano-Pomeraniensis along with congratulations for a beautiful, long, and devoted life.

“They are a treasury of experience, good advice, and memories. May each day be a source of joy, filled with love and support,” said Marshal Piotr Całbecki.

Mrs. Kunegunda was born on November 3, 1925, in Pieńki Kościelskie (Radziejów County). She came from a large family – she had eight sisters. Her parents ran a small farm, and her father, in search of a better life, went abroad twice. Thanks to his work and resourcefulness, the family was able to acquire land and a home, which for decades served as the center of family life.

Mrs. Kunegunda’s youth coincided with the difficult years of World War II. Even as a young girl, she worked hard – in the fields and on a German farm, first in her native Pieńki Kościelskie and later in Bartłomiejowice, in the Osięciny municipality.

After the war, on May 1, 1946, she began a new chapter in her life – she married Józef Grudzień. The couple settled in Bełszewo (Radziejów County), where they ran a farm together and raised three sons. Over the years, Mrs. Kunegunda’s family grew – today, the centenarian enjoys the company of eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.

The celebration of her 100th birthday took place in a warm, family atmosphere – with well-wishes, a cake, and a symbolic toast to the celebrant’s health. The event was also attended by representatives of the local authorities, including the Mayor of Osięciny, Sławomir Staniszewski, and the Chairman of the Osięciny Municipal Council, Marek Ziemiński.

Since 2018, the regional self-government has been honoring centenarians living in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region.
