On Thursday, we’re donating blood
Despite the progress of modern medicine, it has not yet been possible to create a substance that can fully replace human blood. On Thursday (October 16), a special mobile blood donation unit from the Regional Blood Donation and Blood Treatment Center in Bydgoszcz will be stationed at Teatralny Square, in front of CKK Jordanki, where volunteers will be able to donate blood. The campaign is repeated every third Thursday of the month.
— “Your blood can save another person’s health or life. I appeal to everyone who can to take part in our campaign,” said Marshal Piotr Całbecki.
Where and when can you donate blood or plasma?

Who can become a donor?
Blood can be donated by healthy adults up to 65 years of age who show no signs of infection and weigh at least 50 kilograms. Donors must bring a photo ID confirming their identity and PESEL number.
Before donating blood, you should drink about 2 liters of fluids (water or juice) in the previous 24 hours, get enough sleep and rest, eat a light meal, limit animal fats in your diet, reduce smoking, and avoid alcohol (including the day before donation).
Donating blood is completely safe — only single-use sterile equipment is used, so there is no risk of infection from blood-borne viruses. The visit begins with filling out a questionnaire, registration, a blood sample, and a medical examination. The actual donation takes about 5–10 minutes (usually one unit of whole blood, i.e. 450 ml). Afterwards, donors are asked to rest for 15 minutes and receive a caloric equivalent (chocolates and juice). More information can be found on the Center’s website.
The Regional Blood Center’s mobile unit will exceptionally park at the square in front of CKK Jordanki. Staff will be available from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
In 2025, blood donation in front of the Marshal’s Office will also take place on:
- November 20
- December 18
According to the Statistical Office in Bydgoszcz, there are over 33,000 honorary blood donors in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship — nearly 2 percent of the region’s population.
